MV Trip Recap - Newport

By November 10, 2010 , ,

As a graduation present from a close family friend I was given a week at the Harbor Side Inn in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. I was beyond ecstatic of course and completely blown away.
We got super lucky and Southwest had $49 flights into Providence, Rhode Island when we needed them. To use the flights we ended up going Saturday-Saturday vs. the Sunday-Sunday hotel was so for. This extra day let us spend a night in Newport which was great since I hadn't been there since '03 (I think).
We arrived in Providence around 12 got the car and headed to Newport about 30 minutes away.
Steps for enjoying Newport

 1. Sample Local Brew - Newport Storm Rhode Island Blueberry at a cool place
2. Eat a massive Fish sandwich within site of the water it came from. (Oh Tennessee and your landlocked-ness you've made me a seafood crazy lady.) This beauty  is from Buskers.
3. With a stuffed belly check into cute Inn found on TripAdvisor located next to yummy lunch spot.
All the rooms have different decor. Our's was the dizzy toile room with not toile headboard
The place was called America's Cup Inn and it was cross between a B&B and an independent hotel, but what was really great was the location, we were able to pop back to the room between our walking outings.
4. Walk around the entire town talking, shopping, etc. Run into a Segway tour holding up traffic. Laugh-point-take photo. (Even better I looked up the tour site, the tour is $99 and you have to have a driver's license etc., lmao).
5. Watch mediocre cover band play that night at One Pelham East.
6. Ditch bad band and walk around some more, then spend 30 minute eating your monster Chocolate Fudge ice cream cone from Kilwins. Have BF make fun of you... in a loving manner
7. Finally get hungry again, realize it's now almost 11 hmmm. Go back to room to find "Newport late night eats", find award winning Nikolas Pizza, rejoice. Set out to walk there. Enjoy what Andrew calls the "Best Pizza he's ever tasted." Realize next trip needs to be NYC or Chicago.
8. Walk some more.
9. Sleep.
10. Visit inn "breakfast" and check out.
11. Get A some 'real coffee' (He has a serious addiction). Go to Coffee Grinder right on the end of the wharf complete with owner who sounded just like Rachel Ray and even talked about quiche.
12. Walk around some more in pursuit of forgotten sunglasses. Score buy 2 get one free cheapies. Two Not-Wayfarers for A. Hot pink hate blockers for me.
 13. Go to lunch on a wharf at Diegos which I found Restaurant.com. Use $10 off gift certificate I paid $0.80 for.
14. Swoon over how amazing your fish tacos are. Eat them all!!
15. Head to tour the Breakers Mansion full of fish! The Breakers was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt in just two years during the Guilded Age.
16. Realize the genius of self guided audio tours and how they drastically reduce the effect of annoying people while touring.  If you're in Newport you must at least visit the Breakers, I wish we had time for the other mansions as well. (No photos inside, but lots are on this site www.NewportMansions.com).
17. Locate a Target and DSW (Silly A didn't bring sneakers!) on the way to the ferry.
18. Leave Newport =(
