Oliver + S American Girl Popover Sundress & Cleaning Tip

The Popover Sundress pattern is available for free download on the Olive + S site, along with a matching little girl dress. It is definitely sized for the newer American Girl dolls, which is why she’s looking so ‘sausage’ poor Karen! So if you are making this for an older doll definitely cut it generously.
I skipped the bias tape steps and rolled hem the edges and even the bottom hem with my serger! All the serging made the dress come together super quick, these would make great favors for an American Girl birthday party, I think you could easily whip out 12 of these assembly style without going crazy.
For casings did them ‘proper bias tape method’ stitching right sides together, pressing and folding, then stitching in the ditch.Popover-Pillowcase-Dress-002Popover-Pillowcase-Dress-003
I also tried out the clean your American Girl with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser trick I saw on YouTube, while I have washed Karen over the years she did get played with a lot, so she had a lot of worn vinyl shine, the Mr. Clean did a great job, definitely look up some videos and be very cautious, but look at these before and after’s, she no longer is in dire need of oil “blotting papers”.

  1. Never knew about using a magic eraser on an AG doll. Ours are still pretty new, but we may need that over time.

    1. They work great! The super gentle abrasion of the magic eraser helps reduce the 'worn shine'
